Welcome to Dave McCormick's Moth and Butterfly World. Here is information on the Superfamily, Cossidae and its subfamilies. Go Back to A-Z Family index and Photos Information This family is a worldwide family of moths that contains over 500 species. Many species have large caterpillars and adult moths usually have a wingspan from 9 to 24 centimetres (6¾ in). Many are usually dull coloured and take around 1-3 years because the caterpillars bore into trees and there is not much nutritional value there.
