Welcome to Dave McCormick's Moth and Butterfly World. Here is information on the Superfamily, Axioidea and its subfamilies. Go Back to A-Z Family index and Photos Information Cimeliidae or the "Gold Moths" (formerly known as Axiidae which is now known as a family of mud lobsters) is a family of moths which have a pair of pocket-like organs on the seventh abdominal spiracle in the adult moth which are only possibly sound receptive organs and this is unique to these moths. They are quite large and brightly coloured moths that occur only in Southern Europe and feed on species of Euphorbia.
